genie 1.35 / RunInGenie 0.2
Now with distributions... both of them, actually.
In the spirit of providing product announcements, have some product announcements.
(Okay, okay, but I’ve only had one cup of coffee so far this morning. Sue me.)
First up is genie 1.35. This hasn’t changed much since the last version in terms of what you get, other than clarifying a dependency. Work on this release, rather, has been all about improving the build system - and that means that the important announcement is that there are now actual official packages for Arch and Fedora, along with a last-ditch tarchive option for those without official packages.
Next is RunInGenie 0.2. This has some actual improvements to the product itself, mostly thanks to contributions by @gbraad. In 0.2, you can:
Start a shell by using $ on its own, with no following command1;
Choose which distro you want to execute a command in, with the new -d/—distro switch;
And configure the default distro to use (if not the same as the WSL default distro) and a shell to use other than `sh`.
More details at the link.
This is not a login shell, and should not be used as a substitute for wsl genie -s when creating long-running WSL terminals. But it’s a convenient shortcut when you just need to rattle out a couple of Linux commands in your current context.
